Most Ghost Hunters and Paranormal Investigators will tell you this isn’t a joke, and usually they have all learned these things the hard way as well, so this should be seriously considered before beginning any investigations or hunts.
When entering the site of a paranormal investigation, particularly where a hostile entity has manifested, or any possible entity could be encountered, it is always advisable for the participants of the investigation to initiate some sort of self protection or some type of of "psychic shield."
Creating a Psychic Shield can be done fairly simple and you can prepare yourself in many ways, meditation is one method. Spend about fifteen minutes alone or with your group and envision a white light of protection. Prayer is, of course the other method, whether you choose to pray directly to God, to a saint, a guardian angel, a spirit guide, or other being of your faith.
Whichever you choose, the bottom line is that you need protection of something good to combat any darkness which might come after you. Never underestimate the good powers in the universe or you may be harmed by the bad ones.
Below is a simple blessing that is void of any religious affiliation, as it is understood that each individual must, at such times, draw upon his/her own faith or source of inner strength.
"As we enter this place where impressions of the past are trapped and associations linger, let us do so with the assurance that we are guarded by the Power which proceeds from forthright and peaceful intent. We envision a white radiance encircling us, fortifying us and protecting us from any harm or distraction in our purpose this day."
Also don’t forget to protect yourself again after the investigation since an entity can attach itself to you and follow you home! So when leaving any area you have investigated, always advise your group to tell the spirits to remain where they are. Although this isn't guaranteed to work, it does help.
